Payment initiation service (PIS) – a payment method based on an open banking system. It enables online buyers to pick their bank and, often without even leaving the payment window, confirm the payment for goods or services. It is a cheaper alternative to the previously popular Bank Link service.

How does payment via PIS look like?

Payment steps may differ based on which bank is selected.

Select your bank.

In order to pay, the buyer first selects the bank where they have an account.

Log in to your bank.

The buyer enters their login details and if needed gives permission to Paysera to process the payment.

Confirm the payment.

The buyer confirms the payment and is returned to the e-shop.

How to start using the payment initiation service?

In order to use all the benefits offered by the PIS, the merchant must open a Paysera account and start accepting payments via Paysera.

If you are already using the Paysera payment gateway for accepting online payments and now want to switch to the payment initiation service and start saving money – you should select this method in your project settings in your Paysera account.

Log in to bank.paysera.com > Projects and Activities > My Projects > Project settings > Payment gateway service settings.

If you are new to accepting online payments via Paysera, the PIS will be turned on for you automatically.

If you already use Paysera Checkout to accept online payments, but you haven't tried the PIS just yet – log in to your Paysera account via bank.paysera.com >Projects and Activities > My Projects > Project settings > Payment gateway service settings.

Go to Payment methods and pick a country. You will see different banks available and payment methods available with these banks. Next to every available bank choose to use the payment initiation service to process payments and save the changes.

Paysera PIS enables online merchants to accept payments via almost 100 banks and payment institutions in various countries. See all available payment methods by selecting a country of your choice.

For example, in Lithuania, the majority of e-shops in the country use the PIS to accept online payments, therefore payments are available via all the banks and payment institutions in the country: Paysera, Swedbank, SEB, Luminor, Citadele, Revolut, Šiaulių bankas, Medicinos bankas, LKU. When an e-shop uses the Paysera Checkout – their buyers can also pay by card.

Both Bank Link and the Paysera PIS enable e-shops (or online merchants without an e-shop) to accept payments via several different banks. However, because of various benefits offered by Paysera, many clients are switching to this payment processing method.

The buyer is redirected to a bank page for payment confirmation. The buyer may be redirected to the bank page or stay in the checkout window and fill in the required data there to confirm their payment.

The merchant can select either one of these two options.
Checkout costs more because a bank fee is applied. Checkout costs less because no bank fee is applied.

Yes, in order to use all the benefits provided by the Paysera payment initiation service, you have to register with Paysera and start accepting payments with the Paysera payment gateway – Paysera Checkout.

If you collect payments as an individual, e.g. under a self-employment certificate, you don't have to open a business account.

If you are collecting payments as a company, open a Paysera business account.

Safety when paying via banks.The security of clients' money and data is ensured not only by the Paysera system but also additionally by the bank which the client selects to perform the payment. Additional buyer identification in the bank's system ensures maximum security when making online purchases.

You can be sure that you will receive the funds. You have the option to select to credit payments only after a bank statement is received.

For that, log in to bank.paysera.com > Projects and Activities > My Projects > Project settings > Payment gateway service settings > Credit payments under the payment initiation service only upon receipt of a bank statement.

Data security. Paysera is an institution licensed and supervised by the Bank of Lithuania that complies with and constantly improves data security requirements. You can read more about the requirements here.

In the payment window the buyer can see all the relevant info, such as the merchant's contacts, buyer's details, as well as fields to enter login data.
